Orlando Therapist Bullying Expert Jim West on Reasons Behind Baby Bullies | CBS 6
If you were to sit and listen in a daycare, you may be surprised at what you hear. Children aged 3-5 years old insulting each other, saying things such as, “You’re stupid!” or “Nobody likes you!” As odd as this seems, the possible reasons behind the bullying seem to make sense. The economy over the past few years is adding extra marital stress to already stressful marriages. This results in the “baby bully” observing their parents yell, scream, insult, hit, slap, calling names, and the child eventually feels his family life is out of control.
Although the child may not try to act out at home, they will more often bully in environments with peers or in situations where they feel more in control or have more superiority. In addition, the parents of baby bullies often work two jobs or are so busy they don’t notice their child’s inappropriate behavior. This causes the child to not be punished or suffer consequences for their unruly behavior, thus forming negative patterns in their behavior.
Is it a cry for help, or just copying behavior?
