PUPA: A Head Start for Young Children From The Base Of The Pyramid
By the end of 2011 OMJ approved a US$3 million loan to ZOOM Editora—the exclusive representative of LEGO Education in Brazil—to launch its new social business PUPA, an early childhood development program that will benefit children and their families in low-income communities of São Paulo. PUPA will address one of the most important gaps in educational services in Brazil: the lack of quality in Early Childhood Education. There are currently 10 million low-income children in Brazil ages 0-6 who are not in daycare or preschool. PUPA will provide educational materials to this market segment, and train parents and caregivers from low-income communities.
