“Somos Cypress Hills”: Organización Comunitaria en Brooklyn

Skyline Features has teamed with Claudio Fayngolz to produce a testimonial from residents of the very community served by this Brooklyn non-profit. Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a non-profit community organization formed in 1983 by a group of activist residents and merchants that serve 8,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of community service programs and neighborhood development projects. One of their key programs is Cypress Hills Child Care Center, a full day care for families and Universal Pre-K in supporting their 2.6 to 4-year-olds. Ninety-seven percent of the children in this program are Latino. At one point they faced budget cuts that would have negatively impacted the ability of low income and working poor families to hold a job – thus compromising an entire family’s financial stability. This Child Care Center is vital to this community and makes a tangible difference in the children’s well-being and educational enrichment increasing their opportunities to succeed when entering elementary school.
