CAMP HUMPHREYS – The 2013 U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Tax Center opens for business on Jan. 24.

The hours of operation will be: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays.

The standard deadline for filing the 2012 Federal Tax Return is April 15. Most members of the Camp Humphreys community, however, are eligible for a filing extension. To use this extension, a statement must be attached to the return showing the filer meets the requirements and file a Form 4868. The Tax Center staff will be able to help filers through this process.

Army policy permits tax preparation for eligible clients, which are active duty military members, retirees, civilian employees and their eligible family members. When coming for an appointment, the following should be brought:

ID for eligibility
Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Assignment letter for you, your spouse, and dependents
Bank routing numbers and account numbers for Direct Deposit
Source of Income to include: W-2s, 1099s, 1098s
Total paid for daycare provider and the daycare provider’s tax identifying number
Proof of foreign status, if applying for ITIN
Power of Attorney (if applicable)
Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents on the tax return
Separation or Divorce Papers
Last year’s tax return
Anything else you think is related to your taxes

The Tax Center staff will help filers prepare and e-file using forms 1040 EZ, 1040A or 1040 with most applicable Schedules and Credit worksheets. The staff cannot, however, prepare complicated Schedule Ds or Schedule Cs (with the exception of Family Childcare Provider).

If a filer’s state of residency collects income tax, those state forms will also be prepared and e-filed, with some exceptions. Tax Center personnel can also help filers prepare a W-7 to apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

For those who have questions or would like more information, contact the Camp Humphreys Consolidated Legal Center, at 753-6245 or stop by Bldg.S-734, or starting Jan. 24, 753-5680 or at Bldg. 751.
